On Thursday 21st September, six year 12 students: Jarl Porter, Sean White, Manny Peel, Darby Carlisle, Harriet White and myself went to Exchange Place to attend a Young Enterprise Launch Day.

The day began with a hearty breakfast, whilst socialising with students from other schools who were taking part in the challenge. We then entered into the auditorium and received a several presentations, including one from our regional principle, Mrs Caroline Gray who gave us an introduction to the day and how it would proceed. Roy Howard the Young Enterprise general manager then followed, who explained to us how the Young Enterprise programme worked and what we would be doing throughout the company challenge. This was then followed by Cameron Currie (the Head of CAP globally), who gave us a brief insight into CAP and how successful YE has proven to be over the years. There were then presentations by Stoke by Nayland and Cottingham campus providing invaluable business pointers and tips from what they had learnt from doing it last year.

Then, we were told our challenge for the day, which was to create an app and then present it to all the teams in our region. The winner from each region would then proceed to the final where they would compete and present their unique and innovative app to the full audience. Lastly there was a excellent speech from Jaguar Landrover representative Chris Rushton outlining the history and making of JLR and how JLR strive for excellence. He then made way for Alastair Turner who revealed the prizes for the 3 finalists of the app competition, they were as follows: 3rd place was £15 voucher per student, 2nd place was £30 voucher per student and finally 1st place was a trip to the LandRover Experience on the 13th of October! A brilliant incentive… after the lunch which was kindly set on by RRT, we went into our teams and completed our presentations. Ours was called TUTIT, a platform that allows teachers and students to teach and learn through a video conference. We then gathered in the auditorium again for the final verdict on the top three presentations, were we found that the winners were: 3rd – Wilton Campus, 2nd Dunstable Campus, and 1st Bramley!

We greatly benefited from this day and we hope you will hear from us soon!
